10,000hrs for Typhoon in Saudi Arabia
Recently the Royal Saudi Air Force Typhoon aircraft completed 10,000 flying hours – a significant milestone in the history of any fleet.
Eurofighter Typhoon is the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft providing simultaneously deployable Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface capabilities. Currently Typhoon is in service in 6 countries around the World (Saudi Arabia, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria).
The first two Typhoons arrived in the Kingdom in 2009. They were delivered by BAE Systems, the prime contractor for the agreement between the Saudi and British Governments, and will form part of a fleet totaling 72 aircraft.
This agreement forms part of a strategic relationship between the two countries which has built up over the last fifty years .BAE Systems’ history in Saudi Arabia, and the start of its relationship with the Saudi Government and the Royal Saudi Air Force, follows a very similar path and dates back to the early 1960’s and the Lightning Aircraft. This relationship has grown over the years through a series of defense agreements and long term support arrangements.
