Sweden’s defense industry exported weapons and military equipment worth $1.65 billion in 2013, a rise of 22 percent compared with 2012. Around 54 percent of exports was sold to EU countries and partner states the US, Canada and South Africa. The remaining 46 percent were exported to 20 other countries, of which India, Saudi Arabia and Thailand were the three largest export destinations.
Exports to the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland and Norway amounted to $222 million in 2013, a year when the five largest export markets for Swedish weapons comprised Thailand ($461 million), the US ($168 million), Norway ($134 million), Saudi Arabia ($104.1 million) and India ($95 million).
