Honeywell Takes Off at the 2014 Singapore Airshow

The Singapore Airshow kicks off on February 11 and this years’ exhibitors, attendees and activities are bigger and better than ever. This biennial event takes place at the Changi Exhibition Centre and has been dubbed as “Asia’s Biggest For Asia’s Finest” – and it really holds true to its name.
“Asia Pacific has been experiencing unprecedented growth in the commercial and business air travel space, and with that, airlines and passengers are forming a set of new priorities and demands,” said Briand Greer, president, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “As an end-to-end solution supplier to the aerospace industry for the past 100 years, Honeywell is unique in being able to provide technologies and services that improve safety and efficiencies for airlines and address the evolving connectivity needs of passengers.”
Honeywell is displaying a variety of products and solutions, including:
- Connectivity solutions: Honeywell has a broad portfolio of satellite communication products and services that enable flight safety, crew and passenger productivity, and passenger entertainment. Honeywell’s latest program with Inmarsat, GX Aviation, will offer the fastest global, consistent, wireless connectivity coverage for airlines and passengers.
- IntuVueTM 3-D Weather Radar: Comprehensive features together with 3-D display and analysis tools provide pilots with critical and accurate information so they can make the most informed decisions when flying in extreme weather. This system is available as an upgrade to many existing weather radar-equipped aircraft.
- KSN 770 Bendix/King: A panel-mounted GPS, NAV/COMM that offers a unique touch screen interface to enhance safety and situational awareness through a comprehensive display of safety systems. Pilots are offered ease of control over GPS navigation, radio tuning, weather, traffic and terrain mapping in any condition.
- OvationTM Select: For business aviation aircraft, Honeywell’s Ovation Select cabin management system provides passengers with high-definition in-flight entertainment, productivity and business connectivity through a simple and intuitive touchscreen control.
- T55 engine: The T55 engine delivers advanced performance for the CH-47 Chinook helicopter by producing 4,800 shaft horsepower, powering the helicopter to a maximum speed of 196 mph (170 knots). Technology upgrades to the engine continue to increase operational performance and engine durability.
Honeywell also received a top honor at this year's Air Transport World Awards, held on February 10, taking home the prize for Best Advertisement.

On the occasion of the Singapore Airshow, the European turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR and the United Arab Emirates’ leasing firm Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) announced a contract for the purchase of 40 ATR 72-600s, which includes firm orders for 20 aircraft and options for 20 additional ones.
DAE is the largest aviation leasing firm in the Middle East with an aircraft portfolio of approximately $3.3 billion comprised of B737s, B777s, A320s and A330s. Today’s deal represents DAE’s first order for regional aircraft. The 20 firm aircraft are scheduled to deliver between 2015 and 2018.
The contract is a major milestone in ATR’s recent history and underlines the increasing interest of leasing firms from all over the world in the ATR aircraft family. The ATR 72-600, equipped with new avionics suite and totally redesigned cabin interiors, has become in recent years the preferred regional aircraft below 90 seats for lessors and airlines operating short-haul networks.
Khalifa AlDaboos, Managing Director of DAE (photo), declared: “We aim to diversify our portfolio and expand into regional aircraft to meet an increasing demand from airlines that are developing regional air connectivity. ATRs are today operated by some 190 carriers all over the world, and this is clearly providing us with many potential opportunities to place this new fleet of regional aircraft”. He added: The low operating cost of the ATR 72-600 makes it a compelling choice for operators that need to offer a differentiated product on short-haul sectors.”
Filippo Bagnato, Chief Executive Officer of ATR, said: “We are pleased to receive DAE as a new customer and to further expand the list of leasing firms trusting ATR when thinking to develop their presence in regional aviation business. Thanks to the contribution of lessors, many more airlines can today benefit from the advantages of the newest ATR ‘-600 series’ aircraft, namely in terms of reduced fuel costs, most updated technologies, operating performance and world-class interior designs for passengers”. He added: “Our new partnership with DAE will further enhance the visibility of our brand and our products in the Middle East, where we expect to continue developing our presence in the very next years”.
