TRILAT EX

RAF Typhoons run exercises with USAF F22 Raptors and French Air Force Rafales

The performance of the Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet has been praised during a training exercise held in the United States.

A squadron of Typhoons from the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) took part in the inaugural TRILAT EX – a trilateral anti-access/aerial denial exercise which saw the Typhoon team up with aircraft from the French Armée de l'air and the US Air Force.

The exercise – which ran from December 2-18, 2015 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, in the US – gave fighter pilots from RAF Coningsby’s XI Sqn the opportunity to train together in realistic counter-air and strike scenarios.

Typhoon is the world’s most capable, agile and enduring swing-role combat aircraft. It is subject to an extensive continuous upgrade programme and the latest Phase 1 Enhancement (P1E) package came into operation with the RAF last year. This upgrade further enhanced the effectiveness of the aircraft and its simultaneous swing-role capabilities.

The flight test campaign on Phase 2 Enhancement (P2E) package for the aircraft is ongoing.
